Baremetrics alternatives for solo founders
Updated 2026-08-04
Baremetrics is a genuinely good product. It is also priced for a company with a finance function, which is why so many people search for an alternative once they realise a one-person business is paying enterprise rates to look at one number.
Where Baremetrics is still the right answer
Starting here, because a comparison page that pretends the competitor is bad is not worth reading.
- Dunning. Baremetrics Recover chases failed payments automatically. For a business with meaningful involuntary churn this frequently pays for the subscription several times over. Nothing in this list replaces it.
- Cohort and churn analysis. Real segmentation, retention curves, revenue movement between new, expansion, contraction and churn.
- Forecasting. Forecast+ connects to QuickBooks or Xero for runway, burn and budget variance — CFO-grade, not a chart.
- Cancellation insights. Structured reasons for why people left.
If you need any of those, stop reading and keep paying. They are worth it.
The alternatives
ChartMogul — free under $10k MRR
The obvious first move for most early-stage founders. Genuinely free below $10k MRR, with the best revenue-movement charts in the category and multi-source ingestion. If you are Stripe-only and under the threshold, this is probably your answer. More on ChartMogul alternatives.
Trade-off: it is a hosted web tool, so your revenue data lives on their servers, and the free tier ends as you grow.
ProfitWell Metrics — free, no cap
Free forever with no revenue ceiling, now part of Paddle. Remarkable value.
Trade-off: it is free because it is a funnel into Paddle's paid products, and it is a web dashboard, not an app.
MRR.io — cheap and simple
Accurate core metrics at a low monthly price.
Trade-off: limited custom dashboards and segmentation.
FRGMNT — $49.99/year, native, multi-platform
Where this one is actually different rather than just cheaper:
- It is not Stripe-only. Stripe, Lemon Squeezy, Gumroad, PayPal and the App Store, folded into one figure. If your revenue is fragmented, none of the tools above solve your actual problem. See the integrations.
- No backend. Read-only keys stay in your device Keychain and call each platform directly. There is no FRGMNT server holding your revenue data, because there is no FRGMNT server.
- It is a native iOS app, not a web dashboard, with a push notification per sale.
- $49.99 a year, or $149.99 once. Against Baremetrics at roughly $129 a month, that is about 3% of the cost.
Trade-off, stated plainly: no dunning, no cohorts, no churn analysis, no forecasting, no segmentation. It answers "what am I making, across everything, right now?" and deliberately nothing else. If that question is the one you actually open Baremetrics to answer, the trade is good. If it isn't, it isn't.
Choosing
| If you need… | Use |
|---|---|
| Failed-payment recovery | Baremetrics |
| Deep cohort and churn analysis | Baremetrics or ChartMogul |
| Free, Stripe-only, under $10k MRR | ChartMogul |
| Free with no revenue cap | ProfitWell |
| Multi-platform revenue in one number | FRGMNT |
| Revenue on your phone with sale alerts | FRGMNT |
| No third party holding your financial data | FRGMNT |
On price specifically
Baremetrics at roughly $129/month is about $1,548 a year. For a business at $2,000 MRR that is over 6% of revenue spent on looking at revenue. The question is not whether Baremetrics is good — it is whether you are using enough of it to justify that share. For most solo founders under $10k MRR, honestly, no.
Frequently asked
What is the cheapest Baremetrics alternative?
ProfitWell Metrics and ChartMogul both have genuinely free tiers. Among paid tools, FRGMNT at $49.99 a year is the lowest, though it covers less ground than Baremetrics.
Is Baremetrics worth it for a solo founder?
If you need dunning to recover failed payments, often yes — recovered revenue can exceed the subscription cost. If you only want to see your MRR, you are paying for a lot of capability you will not use.
Does any alternative do dunning?
Baremetrics Recover and a few dedicated tools do. FRGMNT does not — it is a read-only reporting app and cannot take any action on your account.
