Stripe fee calculator

Enter the charge amount and your rate. Defaults are the common US card rate — check your own pricing, since it varies by country and volume.
Why the effective rate is higher than the headline
The fixed fee is the part people forget. At 2.9% + 30¢:
| Charge | Fee | Effective rate |
|---|---|---|
| $3.00 | $0.39 | 13.0% |
| $10.00 | $0.59 | 5.9% |
| $49.00 | $1.72 | 3.5% |
| $199.00 | $6.07 | 3.1% |
| $1,000.00 | $29.30 | 2.9% |
Small payments are disproportionately expensive. This is a real argument for annual plans and for bundling — a $49 annual charge costs $1.72 in fees, while twelve monthly $4.99 charges cost $5.34.
What isn't included
- International cards — typically an extra percentage
- Currency conversion — another percentage on top
- Disputes — a fixed fee per chargeback, usually substantial
- Payouts — free in some countries, not others
- Stripe Billing / Tax — priced separately
So treat this as a floor rather than an exact figure.
MRR is gross, not net
Worth remembering: by convention MRR does not subtract fees. Track fees as a separate line so you can see both. See gross vs net MRR.
FRGMNT reads Stripe fees exactly from balance transactions, so today's cash shows gross, refunds, fees and net separately. See the Stripe integration.
Frequently asked
What are Stripe's fees?
Commonly around 2.9% plus 30 cents for domestic card payments, with additional percentages for international cards and currency conversion. Rates vary by country, so check your own pricing.
Why does the fixed fee matter so much on small payments?
Because 30 cents on a $3 payment is 10 percent before the percentage fee applies. Fixed fees make micro-transactions disproportionately expensive.
