App Store and Gumroad revenue

Updated 2026-08-04

This is the indie mobile developer's classic sideline: an iOS app with subscriptions, plus design assets, templates or a course sold through Gumroad.

The two revenue types could not be more different, and treating them as one number is the fastest way to misunderstand your own business.

Recurring versus one-off

App Store subscriptions are genuinely recurring. Someone subscribes, and unless they cancel, they pay again next month. That's forecastable.

Gumroad sales are one-off. You sold a thing; nothing renews. A great launch week tells you nothing about next month.

Adding a $5,000 Gumroad launch to your subscription revenue produces a figure that looks like explosive growth and then appears to collapse. See does one-off revenue count towards MRR?.

What each side contributes

True MRR Today's cash
App Store ⚠️ pending — reporting in development ⚠️ pending
Gumroad ❌ by design — one-off ✅ today's sales

Be aware before relying on this pairing. The App Store integration currently validates credentials and signs the required JWT, but the Sales and Trends reporting pipeline is still in development. So today FRGMNT gives you live Gumroad sales and a connected-but-not-yet-reporting App Store.

If App Store revenue is the half you need visible right now, this isn't the tool yet. We'd rather say so than take the install.

Why it's worth setting up anyway

Because the Gumroad half works today, and one-off sales are exactly the kind of revenue that goes unwatched between launches. Getting a notification when a template sells at 2am is a small pleasure that also happens to be useful data.

If you also bill on the web

Most developers running this combination eventually add a web product on Stripe, at which point Stripe + Gumroad becomes the more relevant pairing — and the one that works completely today.

Frequently asked

Can I track App Store and Gumroad revenue together?

FRGMNT connects to both. Gumroad reports today's sales now; the App Store integration currently authenticates and validates, with sales reporting still in development.

Should App Store and Gumroad revenue be combined into one number?

Not into one MRR number. App Store subscriptions are recurring; Gumroad sales are one-off. They belong in the same cash view but must stay separate in any recurring metric.
